Makore aka African Cherry lumber is used to create fine pieces of furniture, cabinetry and is also great for turning. Note: Makore wood can turn blue if it comes in contact with iron compounds in moist conditions.

Description: Heartwood offers a lustrous color range from pinkish-red to blood red and reddish-brown. Uniform and fine texture. Grain is typically straight with some logs showing an attractive moire pattern, or mottled, or even dark streaks.

Working Properties: Works satisfactorily with power tools with a severe blunting of cutters due to silica content. Carbide saw blades are required if below 20% moisture content. Can split when nailed and holds screws well. Glues and stains satisfactorily. If filler is used, an excellent finish can be obtained.
Mechanical Properties: Medium bending (13132 psi)and crushing (7853 psi) strength. Low stiffness and resistance to shock. moderate steam bending of heartwood is ok. Sapwood tends to buckle.
Janka Hardness: 1100
