Description: Heartwood color ranges from light to deep reddish-brown. Quartersawn pieces create wonderful ribbon like effect. Grain is straight to interlocked with a medium to coarse texture.
Other Names: Akuk, Benin, Lagos or Degema Mahogany, Krala, Mangona, Munyama, Mbaua, Mbawa, Mkangazi.
Origin: Africa
Working Properties: Easy to work with both hand and power tools with a moderate blunting effect on cutters. Cutting at a low angle is advised to avoid tear out. Good nailing, screwing and gluing characteristics. Polishes and stains to an excellent finish.
Mechanical Properties: Medium crush strength(6460 psi). Low stiffness and resistance to shock. Bending (10735 psi)strength is low and can result in buckling and/or fiber rupture.
Janka Hardness: 830
