Wormy Chestnut Lumber
Botanical Name: Castanea Dentata
Wormy chestnut wood is truly irreplaceable material. After the Chestnut blight in the early 1900s, there is no such thing as a living Chestnut tree in America. Those remaining trees have been small burrowing insects which give this domestic lumber species it's "wormy appearance." As a testament to the wood's durability, Chestnut wood is highly resistant to decay. Because of this is a rare hardwood, you can find it in high end pieces such as decorative picture frames, furniture, and cabinets.
