When freshly cut, the heartwood is a deep purple-violet. Over time, it will mature to a rich dark brown. The original color is restored when re-cut / refinished. Grain is mostly straight, but sometimes appears interlocked, irregular, and wavy. Moderate to fine texture. |

Can be difficult to work with hard or power tools with a medium to severe blunting effect on cutters. When heated by dull cutters, the wood may exude gummy resin. Slowly run material through machines equipped with HSS knives for best results. Pre-drilling required when using nails. Takes glue well and stains and wax polishes easily. |
